WE ARE THRILLED TO REVEAL THAT FOLLOWING MULTIPLE NOMINATIONS AND A UNANIMOUS VOTE, OUR 2023 CHARITY OF THE YEAR IS YORKSHIRE AIR AMBULANCE
Here at Yorkshire Garden Centres, we are passionate about supporting local charities in Yorkshire that are close to our team members hearts. That’s why every year, we give our team the opportunity to nominate a charity they feel should become our next Charity of The Year.
Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an independent charity that relies entirely on the generosity of the public. They provide a lifesaving rapid response service to 5 million people across the whole of Yorkshire and currently attend on average 4 incidents every single day.
Through a series of fundraising events, till collections and united team efforts, we are hoping to raise £19,000 this year, which will fund a full day’s service.
WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO SO FAR…
Yorkshire Air Ambulance come to store!
We invited the team from Yorkshire Air Ambulance to engage and educate our customers on their brilliant services, as well as collecting donations for their vital charity! We will be seeing a lot more of the team in store, make sure to say hello! Any donations are massively appreciated.
We climbed Inlgeborough!
Our team put on their walking boots on Sunday and climbed Ingleborough to raise funds! We had a lot of laughs and giggles along the way and we even managed to hit the half way mark on our ‘Walk Around The World’ challenge we set ourselves in May!
We ran the Leeds 10k!
Our GREAT team popped on their running shoes and ran Leeds 10K in June! All of our members ran the race in the hot weather at a great pace, we couldn’t be prouder of everyone’s involvement on our journey to raising £19,000 for our amazing Charity of The Year!
Yellow Day
Our GREAT team got involved in Yellow Yorkshire Month throughout April, dressing up in their brightest yellow attire in order to raise awareness of our new Charity of the year!
Bake Sale
We have been baking some delicious yellow themed cupcakes – with 10% of proceeds going to Yorkshire Air Ambulance, these sure went down a treat!
A brew with the crew
In April our team were set the challenge to have a clear out at home and donate their pre-loved items to Yorkshire Air Ambulance, our collection of items will definitely make a difference in raising funds for this amazing chartiy!
Our Charity of the Year fundraising is managed by a committee, which includes members of our team across all of our sites in Yorkshire. Our People and Culture Business Partner, Steph Bates said:
“Yorkshire Air Ambulance was one of four charities that were nominated and voted on by our team and we’re looking forward to helping them to raise the £19,000 it takes to keep the charity operational for just one day. The remaining three charities will each receive £150 from our Kindness Pot which supports good causes close to our team’s hearts.”
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO FUND YORKSHIRE AIR AMBULANCE?
Plans to raise these funds include a team challenge to walk 25,000 steps during May, which will include a sponsored walk in Ingleborough, silent auctions and donations from our team members. We have also given all of our team members the opportunity to participate in a sponsored Sky Dive, Leeds 10K, and the Total Warrior Mud Run!
Yorkshire Air Ambulance’s regional fundraiser for West Yorkshire, Helen Berriman is delighted with our support: “Thank you so much to everyone at Yorkshire Garden Centres for choosing Yorkshire Air Ambulance as your charity of the year. Every year we need substantial funds to keep our two helicopters maintained and flying, and without businesses like yours raising money, we simply wouldn’t be here to provide the vital support that is needed in the event of an emergency. With everything the team has planned, it’s going to be an amazing year of fundraising!”
