DAVE’S COMPLETE GUIDE TO SPRING LAWN CARE

SCARE YOUR LAWN INTO LIFE

Your lawn shouldn’t have to compete with moss and weeds for vital nutrients and soil moisture. Scarifying your lawn will help alleviate the build-up of thatch layers in the lawn including debris, dead grass and moss.

By the way, Scarifying is just a fancy word for raking!

Apply a moss control product such as AfterCut All-In-One Lawn Feed, Weed & Moss Killer to help eradicate any unwanted materials before giving it rake to remove any debris. Small patches of weeds can be dealt with effectively by using Resolva Lawn Weedkiller, or by removing by hand.

LET YOUR LAWN BREATHE

Aeration is a key step in your spring lawn care routine. It allows air, water and nutrients to penetrate the roots and encourage strong growth. It’s important to target any damaged areas with brown patches, built-up grass or lawn moss.

To aerate your lawn, simply plant your aerator or garden fork into the ground to a depth of about 6cm. Push into your lawn to release the soil from the ground and repeat in the affected area.

Spread Westland’s Lawn Sand over your lawn, focusing on the areas you’ve spiked, as this will further help with drainage and moss prevention.

OVERSEED YOUR LAWN

Over-seeding is a simple process of adding seeds to your lawn to improve its quality and appearance. It is one of the quickest, easiest and cheapest ways to rejuvenate and thicken grass. Gro-Sure Smart Lawn Seed is a great product that can help increase the density of your grass and will rapidly improve the lawn’s appearance.

Spread the seeds evenly over the your lawn, taking care to add more in areas that are scarce or damaged. Once the seeds have been scattered, water the area generously 3 – 4 times a day for the coming week so that the seeds remain nice and moist and can germinate easily.

Once they have germinated, feed them with a good fertiliser such as Vitax Lawn Feed which is chemical free and plant based.

FEED YOUR HUNGRY PATCH

As the weather improves, your lawn will begin to grow rapidly but it’s important to provide it with all the correct nutrients to ensure that you have a nice thick, full lawn when summer comes around!

Giving your lawn a good feed with lawn food such as Phostrogen Organic Lawn Food which will ensure your grass is greenerthicker and stronger. This makes it more robust and better equipped to compete with weeds, moss and weather-related stresses.

It’s best to apply your fertiliser when rain is forecast or, if there is no rain due, then simply water in within 24 hours after application.
